I grew up fishing in Buzzards Bay. This is a great, relaxing way to spend the day. The action is usually fast, with light tackle that anyone can handle. That being said, this is the trip to take the kids or grandkids on! The fishing grounds are only 10 minutes from the pier.
MAY FISHING FOR SEA BASS IS AS GOOD AS ANYWHERE ON EARTH FOR HUGE FISH! I can’t be any more clear than that. Huge means 4-6 pounds. It’s an amazing fishery. For those who are used to fishing wrecks in New York/New Jersey, we fish in waters that are 20-50’ deep! This is great, light tackle fishing.
For fluke fishing, we drift shallow, warm waters using chubs, squid, sandeels, and other bait to tempt these delicious flat fish. With water sometimes pushing 80 degrees, you never know what you’ll catch!
We catch big scup during the spring. These are great fighting fish and the action is often immediate. I stopped taking it for granted how pretty this area was when I started watching my own videos. Amazing scenery, great action, and tops on the plate!
I had customers fish with me from Long Island, where they travel many miles offshore to fish wrecks—and the pool fish is smaller than some of the fish that we throw back!
Fishing in Buzzards Bay gives us the chance to see some great Cape Cod coastline. What this also affords us is the ability to tuck the boat into many different coves to fish quietly, should the winds pick up.! We also like to anchor over rockpiles when the winds pick up. This makes it easy to hold bottom and the design of the boat/cabin keeps the wind off of the fishing area. This keeps the boat from getting cold on raw days.
We fish for fluke and sea bass using light tackle and a variety of baits. Often times we will use live chubs, which we catch ourselves. We used to be able to buy these in bait stores, but I am dating myself 25 years when I used to sell them the chubs as a kid! We also use squid, sand eels, and mackerel. When conditions are good, I love using artificials to catch the sea bass and fluke. It's much like Southern Bass fishing or Mid-West Walleye Fishing.
